DUI & HER SON CHARLIE

Being a mum is the most rewarding job in the world!

To celebrate Mother’s Day, we invited our wonderful Boom community to be a part of our campaign celebrating all those known as ‘mum’ - work mum, dog mum, your mum, another mum, adopted mum, spiritual mum or mother figure.

With this campaign, we want to acknowledge that mums come in all different shapes and sizes. The love of a mum can’t be beaten, and we are sending big love right back at you!

We are also thinking of those who have lost mothers, mothers who have lost children, and those yearning to be mothers. You all make the world a better place. Read on to meet some of the women of Boom and learn about how being a mum or being cared for by their mum has filled their worlds with that special mum magic.

Mother & Daughter

Ros + Linda

Ros and Linda are two peas in a pod. They share a super close relationship and have had many wonderful adventures while also supporting each other through tough times.

What does being a mum mean to you?

Linda -Limitless love and being gifted a lifelong best friend I get to share so much joy with! My 7 year old daughter and I are pretty much joined at the hip, and I am so blessed to have such a special little human in my life that I get to nurture and watch grow every day.”

When we asked Ros and Linda what they love best about being a mum they shared the same answer: “the love you get back”.

What do you love about your mum?

Linda - “Her heart. I know it sound’s cliché, but she truly is the most selfless person I know. She gives so much of herself and her time to others, expecting nothing in return. She truly has the biggest heart, and I feel so blessed that she has passed on that desire to help others to me. I am truly blessed to have her as my Mum.”

MOTHER & DAUGHTERS

Amanda

Amanda is a Mum to two absolutely gorgeous girls - Winter and Deva. They live a busy family life filled with lots of love, cuddles and chaos!

What does being a mum mean to you?

“I was really nervous about being a mum because I didn’t know what it was going to entail. It’s really nice actually. They teach me to slow down because I’m always trying to be ahead. They make me laugh. They teach me patience. They show me things I still need to work on as a person, which is a beautiful gift that they give me.”

“I love the hugs and the madness of it. It’s a beautiful chaos but it’s worth it.”

MOTHER & DAUGHTER

Kirsty + Layla

Kirsty has a big beautiful family as the mum of five kids. Kirsty and her youngest daughter, Layla, flew up to the Sunshine Coast all the way from Victoria to be part of this campaign - and we were so lucky to have them! You could feel the love and joy just radiating off these two.

What does being a mum mean to you?

Kirsty - “It means everything. It’s what I get up in the morning for. It’s really really hard to describe just how fulfilling being a mum is. Yes, it’s tiring and yes, it’s hard, and yes, some days I’d like to trade them in, but I wouldn’t change any bit of it for the world. It’s very fulfilling.

My mum is also here with me today. I have her ashes here in my necklace, which I never ever remove. My mum passed away in 2014 from breast cancer and there’s not a day goes by where I don’t wish that she was here.”

What does your mum mean to you?

Layla - “It’s so hard to put into words because even though we do fight sometimes - that’s just a part of a mother-daughter relationship - I know that I’ll always have a piece of her with me wherever I go.”

MOTHER & DAUGHTER

Carolyn & Hayley

Carolyn is a fabulous mother of three, who has been shopping at Boom since our Eumundi Market days. Her youngest, Hayley, remembers being taken along to Boom market stall as a little one, and they still share a love of shopping to this day!

What does being a mum mean to you?

Carolyn - “It’s the greatest joy ever. It’s my greatest achievement and accomplishment.”

“I just love being able to watch how incredible all of my kids have been at becoming such wonderful adults. It’s been a real pleasure and joy to see them blossom, become independent, and get out in the world really confidently. I really really love that they still like to come home and be treated like kids again.”

What does your mum mean to you?

Hayley - “My mum means everything to me. My mum is my biggest role model. She’s who I look up to and who I want to be. I love how supportive my mum is. She always pushes me to do the best that I can. I just love my mum.”

DAUGHTER OF THREE VERY SPECIAL WOMEN

Sue

Sue had three very special mother figures in her life, her biological mother, Lola, her foster mother, Julie, and her adoptive mother, Faye. Sadly, these wonderful women are no longer with us, so Sue took a moment to tell her story and reflect on what each of these mums meant to her.

“I’m an old state ward and I’m very lucky as I’ve had a few mothers. My biological mum is Lola. She is Aboriginal. She has passed away, so I didn’t get to see her or to meet her but I did visit her grave and I did find my family. She was very brave and I think very highly of her. I think I got her strength and storytelling.

My foster mum was Julie. She had me for just a short time but I stayed with the family right up until her death last month, and am still with them since. She was just cheeky. She has a huge heart. She would give give give.

After Julie, it was Mum Faye who had me the whole time. She passed away last year. They’ve all been quite significant in my life. It’s hard when they have left you behind, but I know they are still with us and I love them all.

They’re all cheeky and they’re all great storytellers. They’re all givers. I think the big fella just dropped me down and said these are the people who will help you with what you need to do in the world.”
